My whole life I have been an advocate to stand by those with disability. On my path of life I always have wanted to learn what I believe are the five languages/ways used to communicate with those of all different types of disability. I want to talk about all five topics I want to master to help those with disability an maybe one day help others to understand these techniques.
Lip reading:
This is a fairly easy skill to pick up on and many can argue it is not a language, but a way. I belive this is a common technique used to communicate with those who are disabled. Many people can read lips which helps people who can not talk, but gives them the ability to mouth to you what they need.
Body language:
This is another common way to express what is needed. Whether it be to someone else with a disibility or them using this to communicate with you.
Blissymbols:
These are symbols used in the disabled community to convers through pictures.
Sign language:
Sign language is one of my favorite languages and though I do not understand everything, my whole life I have learned bits and pieces like: I love you, thank you, and please. This is a class I want to take in my
college years to help strengthen my ability to help those with disability.
Braille:
As a child there were two times I have almost gone blind. When I was extremely young and loved to dance. At my cousins wedding I was dancing with a cousin and they ended scratching my eye open with there dirty nail. I ended up in the hospitle and wairing an eyepatch for quite a while. The second time was on my other eye luckily. I can not imagine the damage that could have been done to my already weak eye. This time was a very scary time. Living in a small town with two parents who would work, I could not always be picked up from school. Being one of the last stops living in to town over we were getting ready for my stop. I was young and was sitting in the front seat behind our bus drive. He turned the corner towards my house and as I usually did I stood up in excitment huging the seat. When he stopped he stood up in an angry rage and screamed at me and struck me in the has braking the front of my eye. This put my again in an eye patch, but for double the time. I had an intro to braille type class the following school year a couple months after my insident. This is the most exciteing one to learn in my opinion. This is because I never got to learn everything and loosely remember what everything is.
Feel free to tell me your stories. I would love to hear them and spread impowerment on my blog and social media.
