Why check your urine one may ask the doctor. Urine is something that can tell a lot about what is happening in the body. There are many functions that occur to make urine. Many of which can be placed as causes of disease or other common problems. Specimens of urine are samples that get collected to prevent, detect, and or test for disease. These samples are usually tested by a sccientist or doctor in a lab. Come things checked for are acetone, sugars, blood, and mucus. There are three many types of ways to get a specimen of urine.

Random Urine Specimen:

This is the usual " pee in a cup" for testing. This can be taken at any time of the day to check for proper urine waste.

Midstream Specimen:

This is done to assure that the perineal area is cleaned during voiding to eliminate particles remaining on or in the perineal area. This is usually refered to as clean-catch or clean-void. THis helps reduce microbs in the urethra.

24-hour Urine Specimen:

This is when all urine is collected for 24 hours. Urine throughout the day is kept by the lab and chilled to decrease the growth of microbes.

All tests are to remain toiletry or stool contaninates the sample. This will cause for the test to be started over and all specimen to be discarded properly. Common things that are tested for when these tests are done are these following problems.

Unnatural pH:

The natural scale of pH is 4.6 to 8.0. This is off-put by things like illness, food, and drugs. Reagent or dipsticks are used to react with pH and changes color bases on pH levels.

Blood Testing:

Hematuria is the presence of blood in urine. Injure and disease cause blood to be seen in the urine and in worse cases to be occult or unseen from a scientist/doctors vision.

Sugar Testing:

This is the testing for sugars int he body, such as: glycosuria and glucosuria. This is most common in the diabetic population. When the pancreas does not breakdown sugar properly problems with your body sugars can occur.

Ketones Testing:

These are particles that occur in urine when there is rapid breakdown of fat for energy. This is a special test done about 30 minutes before meals, four times a day.
