Here is a comparison between two different, but yet similar life experiences:
Typhoid Mary and Kaci Hickox were two people who were quarantined against their will. These ladies were two women who were treated inhuman in the sense they were given no rights. Typhoid Mary was a woman that spread the typhoid virus without knowledge, and Kaci Hickox was a woman who helped to treat the ebola breakout the occurred in Africa. When typhoid broke out in New York they needed to find the reason and Mary was the reservoir at each case, leading to them thinking it was her. This which ended up to be true. As for Kaci Hickox had no sickness that was present at the time of return to America.
These two situations were alike in the fact they were treated inhuman, without a prior case against them. Mary and Kaci in their situation were held against their will and were not aloud to leave. Mary, however was quarantined for years and Kaci was held for around three. The situations differ in many aspects. Mary was a carrier of the disease typhoid and Kaci was not sick nor proven to be sick with the ebola virus. Another thing that makes these different is Kaci was given a court case that she later won, as Mary did not get a case or even the right to have one.
The outcome of these were that Mary was held in confinement for many years and never really got her life back after the situation. Kaci Hickox on the other hand was given a case in the court and got to fight for her rights and get a trial. These two women in the end were given names that have not been great for their reputation. Thus, being Typhoid Mary and the Ebola Nurse. I think that the government was doing the right thing trying to protect the community and those who cannot protect themselves from these viruses and diseases. I believe they could have used different methods in these cases that were not so violent and inhuman. These women should have had the right to a trial right away at the accusation and the right to have their reputations protected from things that can slander them in any ways.
