Is Metabolic syndrome increasing cardiovascular risk

For my health article I will talk about the risk of metabolic syndrome increasing cardiovascular risks. It is now thought that metabolic syndrome can cause more problems than previously thought. Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism has published that people with metabolic syndrome are more likely to die from cardiovascular disease that those without it. The Journal of the American Heart Association, said that black females with metabolic syndrome have a higher chance of getting cardiovascular risks that white females."It appeared that the cardiovascular disease risk was elevated in black women by the presence of only two or three metabolic abnormalities to a degree that would require four or more metabolic abnormalities among white women," says Dr. Michelle Schmiegelow, author of the Journal of the American Heart Association study and research fellow at University Hospital Gentofte, Denmark. Metabolic syndrome causes many risk factors such a stroke, diabetes, and obesity. They have found that it can also raise blood pressure, and lower your good cholesterol. Researchers took a group of multiethnic women ages ranging from 50-79 and assessed them for cardiovascular disease. Of the 14,364 women choosen 47% were white, 36% were black, and the remaining 18% were hispanic. All participants were classified at about 10% over the ideal body weight. These women were studied for about 13 years. About 1,101 were recorded to have had an ischemic stroke or had developed coronary heart disease. I think that this could be a big problem for women of all ethnic backgrounds. This has proven that menopausal women over the age of 50 are gaining weight and their problem is worsening. To help this we could help these women to get in shape and stop this cardiovascular disease. In conclusion doctors found out that metabolic syndrome may be less of a problem for cardiovascular disease in black women, but a higher risk in white women.
