Brain Fuel

Do you think you overeat at times where food is not needed to be consumed. In recent studies Scientist of the University of Alabama have shown that a busy mind means a hungry body. They have stated that heavy amounts of thinking can cause extensive drainage of energy from the brain. This causes the brain to sense needs for more calories, so the body can regain its lost energy. Thought there was no physical movement to start the calorie burning process, we choose to eat. Dr. Gary Hunter, an exercise physiologist worked with this team of scientist to figure out the problem. Are we overeating at the wrong times. There study started with the fact that during high exercising the body release increased amounts of blood sugar and lactate. Knowing that the brain uses this sugar and lactate as fuel, the scientist wondered was the fuel rich oxygen that flows through the brain enough to feed the exhausted brain. With this information they were able to formulate an experiment. Dr. Gary Hunter used two groups of people and set them in two rooms. Both groups were put through college level exams. When they were finished group one sat, while group two was put through physical activity. After their allotted time group one eat more of the pizza that was provided, and group two ate a healthier amount of pizza. My opinion on this study is that we may be overeating when the body senses hunger even when the brain is exhausted for fuel. We should not be eating when the brain is tired, but when the body needs the energy from food. Physical activity might be the way to stop this excessive amounts of food intake and brake the chain of obesity within college student.
