People needs to be informed on the cancerous causes of indoor tanning. There is a seventy-five percent risk of increase in melanoma in those exposed to uv radiation from tanning in those under the age of thirty-five. The FDA wants the rights to ban the sale and use of indoor tanning equipment for non-medical purposes. I agree with this decision by the FDA. Your skin is one of the largest organs in your body and therefore it needs to be protected. There should be a restriction on tanning beds to help protect people from the risks of indoor tanning. In 2016 about 35 states have restricted access to tanning equipment for minors without the consent of their parents. Young teens should not go tanning because of the known health risks that can occur after using a tanning bed. Some of the main health risks are premature aging, eye damage, and skin melanoma. These risks have caused the FDA to make it illegal for a tanning salon to not have a warning sign on every tanning bed and or in every salon. It has been proven that indoor tanning can cause major eye damage in young teens as they get older. That is one of the reasons why the FDA is now forming a rule that kids under the age of 18 will be restricted from the use of indoor tanning in a tanning establishment. The Department of Health and Human services and other researchers for skin cancer have concurred that indoor tanning is very carcinogenic because of the intake of dangerous uv radiations. In fact people exposed to this radiation have a fifty-nine percent increased chance of getting these dangerous skin melanomas. Melanoma skin cancer is the worst type of skin cancer that there is. This cancer attacks the pigment cells. Skin cancer melanoma can help to be treated if detected early enough. Seventy percent of the skin cancer melanomas start as moles and or dark patches on the skin. The AADA is also in support for the ban and sale of indoor tanning equipment for non-medical purposes. The AADA says, “Unless the FDA bans the sale and use of indoor tanning equipment for non-medical purposes, the AADA supports restrictions for indoor tanning facilities, including: No person or facility should advertise the use of any UVA or UVB tanning device using wording such as “safe,” “safe tanning,” “no harmful rays,” “no adverse effect,” or similar wording or concepts.” ( Denoon) The AADA said a healthy alternative to looking tan is self-tanning products and the use of sunscreen. These things can give you a tan without the carcinogenic uv rays causing many risks. Overall tanning beds can be the cause of many problems throughout your life. Tanning can cause unnatural ageing of skin, cancers melanomas, and even eye damage. This is why I want to persuade you to read the warning labels and think about the risks of indoor tanning. Ask yourself if it is good to risk one of the most important organs in you body. Only when you understand the risks will you be able to make the decision to support the banning of tanning equipment for non-medical purposes.
